David has lived his entire life in the Tidewater area of Virginia. Growing up, he spent much of his time fishing and exploring the woods, lakes, bays and ocean. At the age of 20 he began working at a local custom-cabinet shop as a finisher. He enjoyed bringing out the natural beauty of the wood by using stains and lacquers. Over the years, as finishes and materials used on cabinetry developed and became more complex and interesting, David was intrigued by the possibilities of using them to create unique and innovative effects on wood. Within a few years he had become an expert in the field of cabinet making and finishing. He had a gift for matching colors with precision and created beautiful finishes for high-end custom cabinetry. Finishing had become an art for him.

The most important aspect of David’s life is his relationship with God. He began praying that God would give him a new gift that would be fun, unique and would bring Him glory. David was soon inspired to think out of the box with his finishing methods and experiment with non-conventional processes, which led to his invention of this new art medium.

David has always been fascinated by the ever-changing array of color that occurs during sunrises and sunsets. He enjoys creating in his artwork the colors he sees in the sky over breaking waves. His goal is to try and capture the beauty of God’s creation.

His paintings are produced by spraying lacquer and dyes on ¼ inch maple panels using a HVLP (high volume, low pressure) spray gun. He applies multiple layers of lacquer and dyes and manipulates them by tilting the canvas and with bursts of air. Various traditional painting techniques are also incorporated. The unique colors and textures will transform the mood of any room. Every painting is one of a kind.

David believes that his paintings and techniques are the gift from God for which he prayed. To Him be the Glory!
